Duke of Edinburgh International Award
We had an exciting landmark for ESK and North Cyprus this year as 27 students completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh International Award. Mr RicTodd, the British High Commissioner in Cyprus, presented them with their certificates at a special awards ceremony in November 2015. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award involves volunteer work, skill development, physical activity and adventurous journey. Many of the students have now entered themselves for the Silver award, which will be take place during 2015/16.
Hard work and excellent teamwork from Mr Morris, Miss Erureten, Mr Stuart and Mr Reece have led to us being able to set up the Silver Duke of Edinburgh International Award. Part of the awards involves a 3 day, 30 kilometre expedition. 27 students took on the challenge and managed to use every last bit of resolve to pull their teams together and complete it. The students camped for 2 nights near Buffovento castle after their mountain walk and managed to overcome poor weather conditions to light fires and cook their own food.
LATEST UPDATE: March 2016
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh
ESK had 33 students take the challenge of completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This involved a two day hike and one night camping expedition in the Tatlisu Moutains. During the first practice expedition groups struggled to get their bearings on the map but once they got to the camp site they settled well and cooked delicious home-cooked food.
The second expedition is much harder but groups took to the 16 mile hike with an assured confidence. After completing the whole expedition in record time they cleaned and tidied all equipment up and left the venue spotless. I would like to congratulate the groups and in true Duke of Edinburgh fashion the leaders could visually see the teamwork, organization and maturity improving.
