Minister for Education and Sport, and European Manager of Cambridge International Examinations Visit ESK

On Friday May 14th 2010 The English School of Kyrenia had the honour of welcoming Mr Kemal Dürüst, Minister for Education and Sport, to the school. Mr Dürüst was accompanied by Ministry managers Mrs Sevgi Değgin and Mr Tahsin Berk.

Also in attendance was Ann Gibson, European Manager of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), who was on a short flying visit to Cyprus. CIE recently added IGCSE approval to ESK’s existing Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) and Lower Secondary Programme (CLSP) approvals. She was accompanied by Heather Forbes of the British Council in Cyprus.

Ann Gibson asked the Minister what he thought of ESK. He replied that ESK offered students the chance to receive both the local Education Ministry Curriculum while at the same time delivering the globally accepted qualifications of CIE.

In return Mr Dürüst asked Ms Gibson her impressions of ESK. Ms Gibson said that through her role as CIE Manager for Europe she has visited hundreds of schools across the continent and firmly believes that the English School of Kyrenia is a truly world standard school.

School Principal, David Charman, added that one of ESK’s key values is that of seeking to develop the modern whilst maintaining the heritage of the students.
